???? Cacophonous Melody Episode Forty: ????
Tracy had been making remarkable improvements as regards her husband’s efforts to make her socially adept and prepared to meet his social status.
He got her registered in some special classes to learn some etiquette and also get used to living in the social circle he belongs to.
And just like Bruce had always known, Tracy’s smartness paid off, because before long, she was fully prepared to go on official dinner parties with him.
Not only had she mastered confidence in public speaking, she also managed to learn how to maintain carriage in public and social functions as well as picking up conversation topics she was abreast with.
Bruce always felt really good whenever he had heads turning each time he walked past people with his wife, it made him feel like the luckiest man on earth.
His investment paid off and he was really glad that his love and commitment to seeing her turn into the woman he needed wasn’t an exercise in futility.
“Hello honey, how was your day?” Tracy greeted her husband, hugging him tightly at the entrance of the house as he returned from work that day.
Anyone seeing them would imagine that they had just met, and the man was working hard to get the woman to allow him bed her, he was looking at her with so much admiration in his eyes, and she was hugging him like her life depended on holding him.
“Very well thank you darling. How are you now? Do you feel better?” Bruce asked his wife, kissing her fully on her lips, and patting her robust behind lovingly.
“Not really. I was feeling really so weak all day long, and had fever at some point.
“But now that you’re so close to me, your powerful energy seems to have made me so alive all of a sudden” Tracy told her husband, sticking her tongue out sensuously.
“But of course darling. There’s no way anything undesirable can stick around you, when I’m here beside you!
“My appearance will surely chase them far away, just like it did the spirits that hung around Ozonge’s shrine” he told his wife, and picked her off the floor on reflex, when he recalled how he was close to having his wife defilèd by the ànimal called Ozonge.
He walked briskly into his bedroom and lowered his wife gently onto the bed before he got up to take off his work clothes.
“How was work today?” Tracy asked her husband, clicking swiftly as she spoke with her husband.
“Just the usual routine my love. So many things to be done and so little time to achieve them.
“But what can one do? I just have to keep doing whatever I can, to make my queen live like the uncommon pearl she is.
“Because as you already know, it’ll be better a man wasn’t born than be born and still fail to meet up with the simple responsibilities God committed to him” Bruce said, getting off the last shoe on his leg, and walked into the bathroom to have a quick shower.
Tracy smiled mischievously, when a thought crossed her mind; she was going to take her husband unawares, and slip into the bathtub when he already had soap on his face.
She was stepping out of her clothes and getting ready for a steamy session when her phone began to ring.
“Hello mother…’ she was saying but her mother’s angry voice cut in sharply.
“Don’t you dare call me mother. Don’t you dare! I didn’t call you because I need anyone to call me mother.
“I called to let you know that all thanks to you, your father has found an excuse to bring the hàrlot he kept by the side all along, into the house
“I want to inform you, that you have successfully given the double standard man you have as a father, the chance he had been looking for all along, to legalize his relationship with his whorè” Stephanie barked over the phone.
Tracy was livid, seething with so much ãnger that she didn’t see herself bridling her tongue that day.
“For starters mum, you are my mother and will remain so, whether I like your way of doing things or not.
“Again mum, you have no reason whatsoever, no justification at all, to call that woman names.
“She was made father’s wife when her bride price was paid, so it’s only natural that she would bear him children” Tracy said flatly.
“I see! I call you to let you know that your father brought in a strange woman into our home, and you’re spewing all these rubbish, when you know you made all these happen in the first place?” her mother fired angrily.
“Mum that woman isn’t a strange woman. She is his legally married wife, the mother of his children
“And mum, do not keep on with this emotional blãckmãil. I didn’t make anything happen.
“You are the one who failed to do what you needed to have done, when you should have done it” Tracy replied.
“It is alright my dear Tracy. I’m glad that you’re a woman too. And good enough, you are already married.
“Let me see how you will feel when your husband does same to you” her mother flared.
“No mother, I won’t create any room for my husband and I to have secrets between us.
“I will work really hard to see that my marriage remains healthy, because even though my husband worships the very ground I walk on, whenever I go wrong, I will not hesitate to admit and apologize for it.
“And mother,if you need to hear it directly from me, know it that father hasn’t offended you in anyway.
“You got pregnant for someone else, but he impregnated his wife.
“He found out about such a deep secret but didn’t cut me off, but you couldn’t come to terms with the fact that even though he was always the one falling for you to keep peace in your marriage ever since I can remember anything, this issue between you two is way too grievous to push to the corner.
“And mother, I do not think you should hang on to the excuse of the cleansing ritual for what you have done.
“You had a choice, just like I had, and decided to work hand in hand with my man.
“Today, although we are still battling Uloma’s voice, we are doing it together because I made him understand things the way they are.
“He has a crãzy ex that would have been a major problem to both of you, but because he was straight forward with me from the start, we were together in the fight against whatever she planned to for him.
“If you sincerely apologise to father; an apology that is long over due by the way, I’m sure things can still be remedied to some extent.
“I have to go now mum. My husband needs to eat now” Tracy said and hung up, when she noticed that her mother was making sniffling sounds that told her she was crying on the other end of the phone.
Tracy was happy that her husband didn’t hear her talking to her mother that night.
The next morning, after a sleepless night, all thanks to the cacophonous melodies from Uloma, Bruce insisted that his wife saw a doctor. She wasn’t looking good at all.
He drove behind her that morning as she drove in the new car he bought for her, towards the hospital.
At the entrance of the hospital, he blew her a kiss from his car, and drove towards his office.
He remained cheerful all through the day, and was in high spirits until he got home and found his wife holding a piece of paper that she was staring at with an expressionless face.
She didn’t rush to him, and her countenance was really strange.
“Are you okay babes?” Bruce asked her, tossing his briefcase aside and rushed to her sides when he noticed that her eyes had tears in them.
“What have I done to deserve all these from God?” She asked, and Bruce was nearly having a heart attàck, as she pushed the paper in her hands into his
